Recovery Café DC provides the kind of resources and relationships that provide stability and healing. We recognize that recovery is at the root of both preventing and ending homelessness. For those who have successfully transitioned from the streets, the long-term support and loving community provided by the Cafe is crucial to remaining housed and sober.

Membership is free, and open to all. The requirements for membership are:

  • Be drug and alcohol free in the community space
  • Participate in a weekly Recovery Circle
  • Participate in community service at the Café

Recovery Circles – small weekly peer support and accountability groups – form the basis of our program. Through the Circles, each member comes to be deeply known and supported by at least one staff member or volunteer facilitator.

Recovery Circles promote healing through:

  • Teaching accountability
  • The giving and receiving of respectful feedback and gentle reminders of the primary goal of healthier living
  • Preventing relapse through the identification of triggers or high-risk situations for relapse
  • Promoting the development of skills for avoiding drugs and alcohol and building alternative social and recreational opportunities
  • Supporting participants as they live through the symptoms of mental illness and connecting them to resources that assist with the treatment

School for Recovery courses go in-depth into topics of recovery/addiction, life skills, inner healing, and healthy living. Past topics have included:

Be Your Best Self

Financial Management

Women’s Walking Group
